There are generally four sources of advice in respect of financial products: Call Centres, Tied Agents, Bank Brokers and Independent Financial Advisors.

The first three are all employees of a particular company/brand who are limited in the scope of the solutions on which they can advise clients on. Not only that, these Agents or Advisors are seen as financial product distribution forces by the particular insurers so these advisors are often incentivised, beyond the regulated advice fees/commission scales, to market specific categories of products where their employer seeks additional sales volumes. This opens the door for a conflict of interest between what is in your best interest and what is in theirs.

Independent Financial Advisors who hold multiple contracts do not have such incentives and are, therefore, limited to earning the same commission irrespective of the Insurer used. The result is that Independent Advisors can be objective in advising on which products best matches your needs without being swayed by additional incentives.

Most Financial Planning & Investment businesses use insurance and investment jargon and terms that people simply just don’t understand. We see it as critical that our language and process allows you to participate fully in the financial planning process so you understand the whole picture and find value in your financial plan.
